Sixth Annual Gabby Pahinui Waimanalo Kanikapila
August 10, 2013

Thousands of dedicated followers gather every year in August in Waimanalo for the annual Gabby Pahinui Kanikapila (impromptu jam session) to perpetuate Hawai`i's unique musical identity. It is a wonderful experience.

Kanikapila is the Hawaiian name for music produced in impromptu grassroots jam session as was typically done throughout the islands by native Hawaiians. Gabby's 1970's weekend jam sessions at his Waimanalo home marked the rejuvenation of such musical tradition where Gabby and his friends shared their knowledge with the next generation of Hawaiian musicians.
